The ISTA Bulking and Sampling Committee and The Swedish Board of Agriculture are looking forward to host you at the ISTA Workshop on “Seed Sampling and Automatic Seed Sampling”.
The workshop will take place October 8th - 11th, 2018 in southern Sweden.
It will include lectures and teamwork as well as practical training and study visits.
The workshop is organised by The Seed Unit at The Swedish Board of Agriculture. The Seed Unit is located in south of Sweden and the workshop also will take place in this region.


Aim of the workshop:

   The aim of the workshop is to provide an overview of seed sampling with a focus on automatic seed sampling and approving automatic seed samplers.
Different aspects of quality assurance in relation to automatic seed sampling will also be covered.
   The workshop will provide a forum to discuss seed sampling in general but especially automatic seed sampling.
   There will be opportunities to discuss and have specific questions relating to seed sampling methodologies.
   The workshop will focus on practical training with automatic seed samplers using different sampling technologies but also providing an opportunity to use different manual sampling equipment.


Workshop Content:

   The workshop teaching is through formal lectures, study visits and practical individual training as well as in a group.

Topics included in the workshop:

• General principles of seed sampling, (lectures)
• General introduction to sampling methods, (lectures)
• General principles and types of automatic samplers, (lectures and practical training)
• ISTA protocol for the approval of automatic seed sample, (lectures)
• Sampling containers, bags, boxes (practical training)
• Dividing samples for submission to a laboratory (practical training)
• Monitoring automatic seed samplers, (lectures and practical training)

A programme will be posted on the ISTA Website by beginning of September 2018.


Target Group:

This workshop is expected to attract people in seed testing laboratories as well as the wider seed industry, including warehouse staff, who are involved in sampling of seed. The minimum requirement of this workshop is basic knowledge in seed sampling according to ISTA rules.

Participation Fee:

The number of participants is for a minimum of 20 and restricted to a maximum of 30 participants.

ISTA Members: 560 EUR
ISTA Non-Members: 835 EUR

Note: The workshop registration fee includes all literature and supporting material for the workshop, lunches and coffee breaks, excursion to see some areas of interest and an official Workshop dinner, as well as transfers between the workshop venue and hotel (except airport transfer).
It does not include accommodation or meals other than those specified.

TRANSFERS:

By public transport:
The Workshop takes place in southern Sweden. The closest airport is Copenhagen airport, Kastrup www.cph.dk/en, in Denmark.
The easiest way to travel from the airport in Denmark to the city of Lund in Sweden is by train (via the bridge between Denmark and Sweden, travel time approx. 35 min). Depending on time of the day there is a train leaving every 20 minutes to Sweden and Lund (timetable: www.skanetrafiken.se, select language by “translate” in upper right corner, Travel from: CPH airport, Travel to: Lund C). Please note that tickets should be bought before entering the train. There are ticket machines above the train platforms in the airport. Tickets could be bought using credit cards.
Most trains with the direction Sweden stops at Lund C (railway station).The station is just 50-150 metres from the hotels (see map right).


CLIMATE:

The average temperature in Sweden in October is a little cool at 7.5 °C (45.5 °F). The weather in October is varying with occasionally some rain showers. However, if we are in lucky, the sun will shine and we will experience some Swedish colourful mid-autumn.


CURRENCY AND EXCHANGE:

The currency in Sweden is Kronor with an average exchange rate of 9.80 SEK to the EUR.


Travel & Visa information:

A letter of invitation for obtaining visa and to travel will be issued for the participants only after payment of the participation fee.
