1871: A seed testing laboratory opened in Copenhagen, Denmark. This practice rapidly spread across Europe in the subsequent 2-3 decades.

1876: Friederich Nobbe published his famous Handbook of Seed Science and the Motto of the ISTA meeting was “uniformity in seed testing”, later becoming the ISTA logo.
